1 Choose the Right Panels

The first step of your wooden panels challenge should be the choice of proper panels for your project. There are some things to decide on, such as the size, shapes, colour, texture, and grain pattern. 

It’s really important to choose the panels suitable for the room they will be installed in. Remember that panels in the bathroom or kitchen must be moisture-resistant. 

2 Gather the Necessary Tools and Materials

You don’t necessarily need to use professional or hard-to-find tools to install wooden wall panels. You will surely need:

  • Measuring tape
  • Level
  • Pencil
  • Saw (either a circular saw or jigsaw)
  • Hammer
  • Nails or adhesive
  • Sandpaper
  • Paint or stain (optional)

As you can see, these are the basic tools that most of us surely have at home. 

3 Prepare the walls 

Before you prepare the walls by cleaning them or filling holes in, measure the wall to count how many wooden panels you need to buy. 

Next step should be cleaning the walls, and making sure there is no debris. Spackling should be used to fill in any holes or bumps. Sand the surface smooth and attach furring strips to the wall made of bricks or concrete. Use concrete anchors or masonry screws. 

4 Install the panels

Before installing the panels and right after walls preparation process, cut the panels by use of measuring tape, mark the length with your pencil, and finally use the saw to get the correct size. 

There are wot ways of installing the panels. You may either use nails or the adhesive tape. In case of nails, start by marking the nails location. The level will tell you if your panels are attached straight.

Remember to attach the adhesive at the back of the panels and then press the panels firmly onto the wall.  

5 Finishing Touches

Before you can announce the end of work, consider to add the finishing touches. Those who love natural wood, may choose a transparent paint. You can also use color paint or stain to create outstanding decor.
