A rotary compressor is a mechanical device used to continuously circulate a large volume of air at a pressure of up to 10 bar.

How does a rotary compressor work?

A rotary compressor is a volumetric compressor. As the name suggests, a rotary compressor produces a compressed coolant by turning the blades or moving a roller attached to an off-centre crankshaft. Since the rotary compressor voltage is very low, its volumetric efficiency is higher than that of a compatible compressor. The main gearbox (engine) and the supercharger are generally installed in one cylinder, and there is no space between the supercharger and the cover. That’s why they are small and light. One of the main features of a rotary compressor is that it has no inlet and outlet valves to replace the compressor.

Types of Rotary Compressor

The rotary compressors have the following major types:

1) Rotary screw compressor

This is an important type of compressor market today. Two large rotating screws are attached inside the unit. Air enters the end of the screw through the incoming air and then flows between the two rotors. Moving along the screw, the air gap is compressed and compressed and pushes the air towards the outlet.

The screw compressors are very popular because they are quiet and can produce a lot of air continuously. Additionally, they come in various forms, including oil-free options, which reduce the amount of maintenance required to run the compressor. Since the two screws do not stick together, they are hardly worn, except for the engine itself.

2) Scroll Compressors

Scroll compressors are similar to screw compressors, but their internal appearance is somewhat unique. In this case, it is a question of two spirals or pulleys, one of which remains fixed. Before entering the exit center, the air enters the outer edge of the roller and is drawn to the center of the roller, forming a stronger ring. These compressors require minimal maintenance and are smaller than screw compressors, making them suitable for use in confined spaces.

3) Vane Compressors

The third type of rotary compressor is the vane compressor. This type of compressor uses a series of blades that move slightly in the cavity. As air enters the inlet, the rotating blades push the air to the edge of the narrowest circle. This process creates compression using minimal force and impact. These types of compressors are very simple and easy to maintain. Over time, the vans disappear, and the efficiency of compressed ventilation decreases. In many cases, the blades can replace every few years to return the compressor to its original tolerance.

4) Lobe compressor

This rotary compressor uses the same blade compressor model, except that the air enters the chamber through two rotating wheels. Twist the small pockets on both ends of the spinner. As air enters, it fills the pocket and then blows into the chamber, forcing it to compress into a confined space. This is simply the lowest wear resistance of affordable vane compressors. However, cam compressors have limited capacity, so they may not be suitable for applications that require high pressure and constant airflow.

Advantages of Rotary Compressors

  1. The rotary compressor is compact and lightweight.
  2. Do not use any external force or vibration without replacing the compressor. Therefore, an exact basis is not required.
  3. Since the distance of the rotary compressors is very short, the volumetric efficiency is high.
  4. It works at high speed so that it can withstand a lot of liquids.
  5. The weight of the parts of the car is sufficient—very low noise.
  6. The duration is short.
  7. Simple lubrication, no contamination/oil in the liquid outlet.
  8. Unlike standard compressor replacements, rotary compressors continuously supply compressed air.
  9. The initial cost is low.

Disadvantages of Rotary Compressors

  1. Compared to reciprocating compressors, the discharge pressure of each step is lower.
  2. It is not flexible in terms of capacity and compression ratio. More expensive (main drawback).
  3. Improving filtration and lubrication is more complex but generally not necessary for portable equipment.
  4. Wind capacity and total energy are generally lower.
  5. High-powered portable devices can be used, but they are almost always heavy and expensive to power.

Application of the rotary compressor

A rotary compressor is usually used when a large amount of fluid under pressure is required. In large industrial applications, high-powered tools (such as jacks and impact wrenches), air pumps and blasting operations are used. This compressor uses in areas that require a constant flow of liquids, such as automatic food production and packaging plants.
