If you go to any local gym, you will find a lot of equipment, including dumbbells, barbells, and kettlebells. What you won’t find, however, are weight vests.
On the off chance that you find a gym with a weight vest, it is unlikely to be usable. You are bound to find a missing piece or an empty sandbag. This disrupts the weight distribution of the vest, making your exercises less efficient.
In this piece, we will cover some basics about the importance of weight vests, then switch gears to the great work of an MIT engineer.
Why do you need a weight vest?
One of the most common exercises that everyone does is push-ups. This exercise is fundamental for calisthenics. However, it becomes so easy to do after a while, which led fitness enthusiasts to create variations of this movement (e.g., dips).
Why does it become easy to do? Well, simply because lifting your bodyweight does not become a challenge anymore.
Moreover, accessing a good-quality weight vest is almost impossible. The initial design of these vests remains unchanged since the 1980s.
This situation was unacceptable for our MIT engineer! Something had to be done.
How an MIT engineer re-invented the weight vest
To design the perfect weight vest, you need to have engineering skills. However, without real-life experience in the field of calisthenics, it will be a shot in the dark.
Fortunately, our engineer had 5 years of experience in calisthenics. This means he had all the knowledge and experience to develop an efficient weight vest.
It was not an easy process, though! It took hundreds of prototypes printed with 3D machines to reach the final design. The vest needed to provide optimal functionality and also fit the human body.
At first, the engineer had no intention of selling this vest. He simply wanted something to make his workouts more challenging. However, people at the gym kept coming up to him, asking where he got it from.
Eventually, he decided to start producing this weight vest commercially.
The EZ-VEST – A Combination of Engineering Skills and Field Experience
Perhaps the worst thing about weight vests is that you need one at every gym. After all, you cannot carry a 100-pound vest wherever you go. This is why the EZ-VEST uses weight plates that you can find at the gym. Differently put, you can take this vest to any gym and start working out.
The materials used to create this vest are premium quality. For instance, the padding shell is made of ballistic nylon – this is the strongest fabric on the market.
The leather that makes up the lining is machine-washable. The straps consist of 100% nylon, and the metal plate is made of aluminum (aircraft-grade).
The other big issue with traditional weight vests is their adjustability. Fortunately, the EZ-VEST has double-adjustable chest straps. This makes the vest fit different body types and body weights ranging from 100 to 250 pounds.
The final engineering touch on this vest is how much it covers your upper body. Traditional vests usually cover the entire torso, which hinders your movement. Conversely, the EZ-VEST only covers the chest while offering more breathability and range of motion.
The EZ-VEST takes into consideration every negative aspect of traditional vests to create the perfect weight vest. The education and experience of an MIT engineer helped him mold an all-in-one vest that will help thousands of people.
We hope that this piece helped you appreciate the role of weight vests, their disadvantages, and the role of EZ-VEST in addressing these advantages.
