Often, when working with images in Photoshop, the user is faced with the task of cutting out part of the image from the source. It can be absolutely any object (a person, a tree, an animal, an interior item, etc.). A detailed guide on how to cut out an object in photoshop is a must for beginners.
Since the vast majority of all cases of work in Photoshop are the processing of ready-made images, the lion’s part of the program’s tools is designed to perform this operation.
Photoshop tools you’ll need
To cut out any objects from an image in Photoshop, there are several suitable tools.
Quick Selection
This tool is not applicable in all cases. It is required that the selected object has a clear outline. That is, in places where the object touches the main background, the color scheme should not mix. Like in the picture below for example.
Magic wand
This is a tool that can be used to select all pixels combined with one color. The selection can be both adjacent pixels of the same color, and all pixels of this color in the image. For example, having a solid background, it can be easily removed using a magic wand.
Lasso
The tool is very specific and inconvenient. It’s best to use the lasso tool only on a graphics tablet. Try it yourself and see if these words are true. To use the lasso, you need to have an extremely steady hand.
Polygonal Lasso
A handy thing when you need to select objects with straight edges. In other cases, a useless tool.
Magnetic lasso
It is similar in its principle of “Quick Selection”, only more accurate and with the possibility of adjustment. As a result, a line is created along the contour of the object. It should be used only when the contour is clear and not blurry. Same as with quick selection.
Feather
This is probably the most convenient tool for working on the selection of any objects. The flexibility of the tool allows it to be used to work with objects of any shape and complexity.
Many beginners make the mistake of working with rounded paths. Assuming that the more dots they put, the smoother the line will come out. This is not so, just opposite the points you need less. Having determined the radius of curvature by eye, put the next point at some distance from the reference.
Preservation
The most important thing left is to save the result to a file. Export the resulting image to your favorite format using the File -> Export command. In case you suddenly want to go back to editing the picture in the future, save it as a .PSD.
