Famous American soccer coach as well as sports commentator John Madden has died at 85 years old The National Football League (NFL) has announced.

The league stated that he died in a sudden manner and did not offer any reason for his death.

Madden helped lead the Oakland Raiders into their debut Super Bowl victory in 1977 and was a massively famous television host after his retirement from coaching.

Later, he became an icon of Madden NFL Football, one of the most popular sporting video games of all time.

“Nobody enjoyed football more than the coach,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell made clear in an announcement.

“There is no more John Madden. And we are forever grateful to him for everything the work he put into making soccer and NFL the way it is today.”

Madden played as the coach of Madden’s Raiders from 1969 until 1978. He was awarded Super Bowl XI when they finished the regular season, which was a 13-1 win.

He has the highest winning percentage among NFL coaching staff who’ve supervised hundreds of games.

However, he may be remembered most for his commentary career following his retirement from coaching at the age of 42.

Famous for his casual manner of dressing, Madden travelled to games in his own vehicle because his fear of claustrophobia was a problem. Also, he developed fears of flying.

Madden won the record-breaking 16 Emmy Awards and covered 11 Super Bowls from 1979-2009. Madden was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in the year 2006.

“People always inquire, are you a coach or broadcaster or video game player?” he stated when he was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. “I’m an instructor always been a teacher.”
