Did you know that the ancient Egyptians were among the first to tweeze their eyebrows? They did this to pay honor to their god Horus, who is depicted with dark, bold eyebrows and eyeliner. So, black, severely arched black eyebrows became the look of the day.

In the intervening years, eyebrow styles have come and gone. In some decades, brows were tweezed into oblivion. In other decades, thick and bushy eyebrows were the beloved style.

All this change can leave you baffled as you try to figure out how to shape your eyebrows. Should you tweeze them or should you thread them? And what is the best modern style for your brows?

To answer all these questions and more, we compiled this brief guide on eyebrow styling. Read on to find out how to get the perfect brows!

The Perfect Shape

These days, natural brows are the style of the day. This means minimal maintenance. Eyebrow threading and eyebrow tweezing should be used sparingly.

Try to capitalize on your natural eyebrow shape and thickness. If there are aspects to your brows you don’t like, minimize them with small adjustments instead of plucking your eyebrows excessively.

For example, pluck only the hairs that fall between your brows to minimize a unibrow. And use tasteful eyebrow trimming to shorten overly bushing brows.

Get the Right Tools for the Job

To get the perfect eyebrow curves, you need the right tools. Start with a spoolie to get the hair to lie flat so you can trim and pluck accurately. In addition, you’ll need a brow pencil, a small pair of brow scissors, and tweezers (don’t forget to clean them!).

In addition, keep eyelash conditioner and brow gel on hand. These can give you a complete, put-together look for effortless natural beauty.

Shaping Your Brows

Start with an eyebrow pencil and pencil in your eyebrow shape. Then, you can pluck any hairs that fall outside your map. Leave any hairs that are inside the lines.

Use your spoolie to flatten the hairs and identify which ones need to go. Pluck your hairs one at a time to avoid taking big chunks out of your brows.

You can trim any hairs that fall inside your brow map. After plucking, apply a cold compress to calm any irritation.

Ease Into It

It’s happened to almost all of us who’ve tried to do our brows at home: you take too many hairs from one side, then try to balance it out on the other side. You end up taking even more hairs from that side and before you know it you have no brows left and wished you had never started the whole debacle.

For that reason, we recommend starting slow and taking your time. Don’t start styling your brows five minutes before going out.

Try Some Modern Eyebrow Styles for Yourself

With our guide, you can start to try the best eyebrow styles for yourself. Natural brows are the popular style these days, so you don’t have to do too much. A bit of trimming and shaping will go a long way, and you’ll find yourself feeling more confident!
