These days, it seems like everyone is trying to find the secret to stress relief – and given how overwhelmingly stressful the modern world can be, this is hardly surprising. Unfortunately, as is the case with most things in life, there’s no convenient “one size fits all” solution to uncontrolled stress levels. However, at the same time, it’s important to understand that effective stress relief doesn’t have to be a drain on your time, energy or finances. Anyone looking to relieve stress in a simple and timely manner will be well-served by following tips.

Engage in Regular Physical Activity

Engaging in physical activity on a regular basis can do wonders for both your physical and mental health. In addition to helping you build muscle mass, increase stamina and maintain a healthy weight, physical fitness can effectively pump up your endorphins, improve your mood and reduce the impact of mounting stress levels. So, if exercise isn’t currently a priority for you, you’d do well to correct this.

It should also be understood that engaging in physical activity doesn’t have to entail working out to the point of total exhaustion. While some people may prefer tackling more intensive workouts, just 30 minutes of moderate exercise should be sufficient for most of us. For example, going for a half-hour walk during your lunch break or walking on a treadmill while watching television can truly be a boon to your stress relief efforts.

Limit Social Media Use

In the digital age, you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn’t spend their days staring at an assortment of screens. Whether we’re hard at work or kicking back after a long day, very few moments go by in which our eyes aren’t glued to a screen. Of course, this isn’t to say that everything screen-related is bad. For instance, watching one’s favorite movies and television shows can be a fantastic way to relax.

However, if you – like many of us – use social media excessively, this may be contributing to mounting stress and/or anxiety. Furthermore, checking your favorite social platforms throughout the day stands to decrease productivity and hamper real-life interactions – both of which can contribute to increased stress. As such, limiting daily social media use may help keep your stress levels in check.

While limiting social media usage requires a bit of self-control, doing so should be well within your abilities. For starters, make a point of using social media for no more than 30 minutes per day. You can help yourself in this endeavor by turning off alerts and notifications, selecting a specific time of day to check every social platform and closing your social media feed once you’re done checking it. You may also want to consider restricting access to social platforms on certain devices. For example, uninstalling social apps from your home and resolving to only check on your computer is likely to prove helpful in your efforts to reduce social media use.

Make Time for Yourself

Feeling perpetually strapped for time can be a major hindrance to stress relief. After all, if you never have time to do things that bring you joy, it’s only natural that you’d feel stressed. So, if your current schedule doesn’t have much room for “you time,” it’s in your best interest to make some. For example, if you have a habit of turning your personal hours into an extension of the workday, make a point of leaving all work-related documents and devices at the office.

In addition to making time for yourself, you should devote this time to activities that help you relieve stress and recharge your batteries. People who live in states where recreational cannabis use is legal may find weed to be an exceptionally effective stress relief tool. Furthermore, there are a number of simple ways to indulge in cannabis – from edibles to bongs to THC cartridges.

Sometimes, it seems like every conceivable aspect of modern life is packed to the brim with stress. Working, maintaining personal and professional relationships and attending to family obligations are just a few of the things that commonly kick our stress levels into overdrive. Although there’s no magic wand solution to mounting stress, keeping your stress levels in check needn’t require an exorbitant amount of effort. Utilizing the pointers discussed above can help you send stress packing in an easy, effective and timely fashion.
