In today’s rapidly changing world where education has taken a leap from offline to online mode, soft copies of documents and e-books have taken the upper hand, compared to paper backs and hard copies. Among these, one of the most widely used software is the PDF (Portable Document Format) applications which have become the only way of letting the universities and workplaces know that we still exist as their students and employees. Be it submission of research papers or assignments, to completing examinations, PDFs are the prime need of the hour.

Now PDFs cannot be made like any other word document, we need a properly functioning PDF editor to create and share our PDFs. Being a pre-final year student myself, I’ve been working with a number of PDF editors all this while, most of them were quite good and user-friendly, but when it comes to choosing which editor is the best, I’d go for WPS Office for laptop or desktop and Adobe Scan for the phone. Each of these applications have certain pros and cons. I’ll be explaining in detail every bit about it. Before I proceed, I’d like to mention that the choices here are completely based on my personal opinion. Check out these best projectors under 300 for students and employees which they can come up with different applications, and that’s absolutely acceptable.

WPS Office

As the name suggests, WPS Office is somewhat similar to Microsoft Office in terms of functioning, but has quite a few additional features which are exclusive to it, the most important being the option to create and transform any type of document into a Portable Document Format or PDF. Like any other online application, it also comes up with a subscription option but that’s not at all necessary if someone is only using it for PDF editing purposes. It is highly user friendly and is glitch-free to ensure smooth working.

Steps to use WPS Office are as follows:

1. Visit the website: https://www.wps.com

2. Create an account using either email and password or directly through Google.

3. Click on the Home option to explore the different document types that can be made using the

application.

4. Choose the required document format, for example Word.

5. Create the file and save it.

6. Go back to the Home space and choose:

PDF>Create PDF>Select File

Within a minute the selected document will be converted and displayed as a PDF in a new

window.

Some of the editing options include:

1. Change of font, size and width, whether bold, italic or underlined.

2. Addition or removal of signatures.

3. Shifting the position of the graphic content, like images.

4. Alignment changes to the word document.

It is a good practice to keep the original file free from errors, in texts or spellings because

searching through the whole document for spell checks becomes cumbersome and time taking.

Now, as said earlier this application also has certain cons, here are a few:

1. Other than the PDF format, to avail the trending templates while making presentations, a

WPS Office Pro subscription is mandatory. Though that comes with a free trial option for 7 days,

and 24/7-cancellation policies.

2. While saving the file, instead of going for a local space, by default the file gets stored in One

Drive making accessibility difficult sometimes.

3. It is advised to make the document file with MS-Word, because it has certain additional

features compared to WPS Office Word.

Who can use:

For students and research scholars, this application is the ultimate savior owing

to its quick functionality and compatibility with almost every other public software application.

Adobe Scan

Often while working on handwritten projects and assignments, the only way of creating pdfs is

through the phone and that’s when the Adobe Scan comes into action. Rated as one of the best

free pdf editor for phone, Adobe Scan truly gives its users high in class experience with all

features coming under one roof, and that too free!

Steps to use Adobe Scan are as follows:

1. Go to Google Play Store, search for Adobe Scan

2. Download the application that pops up first

3. Once download is completed, open the application and sign up if you’re using it for the first time, otherwise sign in.

4. The Adobe camera pops up. Place it over the document which is to be converted into a PDF.

5. Make sure the focus is perfect.

6. After clicking all the pictures, in the bottom right corner there’s an option for creating PDF.

Once that option is chosen, all the images are converted into a compatible PDF automatically.

We can rename the file and save it in the location of our choice. This file can then be uploaded

or sent to any individual without any trouble.

Apart from creating a pdf, the additional features which it includes are as follows:

1. Modifying the existing pdf in all possible ways

2. Converting any sort of document into a pdf, be it government ids or any other word document.

3. Allows QR Code Scanning and application form creation

4. The White Board option enables live teaching sessions.

Adobe Scan doesn’t have any such cons which are worth mentioning. Though times when

the number of images is quite large, it takes some time to form the PDF. Otherwise, it is rightly

described as one of the best PDF editors of all time. There’s absolutely no subscription needed

for any type of work, but if one chooses to use the other applications under Adobe Acrobat, they

might need to buy the whole package, but Adobe Scan itself is absolutely free.

Who can use:

Any person who is in immediate need to convert a hand written piece of work into

a PDF, or if an existing PDF has to be edited on the go, can use it without any hesitation.

As said, choices may differ based on personal likings. There are many applications available

online, but which one to use is completely up to the user. I mentioned my Best Free PDF
