Packing your moving boxes properly will save you time and stress. You don’t want to use boxes that are too weak, full or not properly taped up. Doing so may mean having to redo your packing all over again.
The good news is we are going to provide you with helpful packing tips. These tips will save you a ton of stress. That being said, our tips include:
1. Use Durable Boxes
Choose durable gaylord boxes, and then fill them to the brim before sealing the lid. This will allow you to stack another box or several smaller boxes on top of it. Also, the bottom of the box should be securely taped, as this will give the box additional strength. You don’t want boxes to open from the top or bottom, nor do you want to use weak boxes because this will increase the risk of contents becoming damaged.
2. Place Lighter Items In Bigger Boxes
If you pack big boxes with heavy items, then they’ll be to heavy to lift. Some big boxes that are filled to the brim can be nearly impossible to move. You can avoid running into issues by packing heavy items, such as books, into smaller boxes.
It’s a good idea to place the heaviest items in a few boxes. You can balance those boxes with soft toys, towels and other light items. Always make sure the lighter items are placed on top of the heavier items.
3. Use Newspapers Or Bubble Wrap
When packing fragile items, make sure you use newspapers or bubble wrap. Professional movers you hire will handle your boxes with care. However, items inside the boxes can still move around during transit, if the boxes are not padded.
Bonus Tips
If necessary, you should write instructions on your boxes. This can include instructions such as “this side up” or “be careful, fragile”. Movers will know how to move boxes in a proper way when there are specific instructions on them. Write the same instructions on all sides of the boxes.
Make sure all boxes are securely taped after you have filled them. This will ensure that you can stack other boxes on top of them. Also, this provides an additional layer of protection for the items in them. Also, consider writing your instructions on the tape.
To make it easier on the movers, packed boxes should be stacked in neat piles. This will allow the moves to easily get their trolleys under the boxes. In turn, the move will be completed in a more efficient manner.
Finally, pack a small box with essentials that you’ll need for your very first night in your new place. Toilet paper, toothbrush, bottled water and snacks are a few essentials you might want to pack. Don’t forget about packing a spare change of clothes.
